My Brain Is Empty!

That's right manly men and manlier women, my brain is empty. Empty of a topic that is. Last Friday I wrote a C.M. Classic Post, and it went over like Sarah Palin speaking at Columbia University.

Like, crickets chirping and tumbleweeds rolling roughly down the deserted road.

So I thought for stale change of pace, I would randomly string nouns, adverbs, adjectives, verbs and conjunction junctions together in a sincere attempt at creating sentences and paragraphs.

Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, eh?

Anywho, a query for you. What's the strangest thing that happen to stumble through your cerebellum long enough for you to momentarily not pay attention to what you were doing? The other day, I was at my local library standing in line waiting to check out a book (a memoir by Jerry Reuss) and a movie (Machete), thinking about nothing really in particular, when the guitar break to this song started playing in the background.

And yes, before you ask, I actually started playing air guitar while I was waiting. Yes, I know, a soon to be 49 year old scruffy looking bald guy playing air guitar is enough to frighten anyone.

Speaking of 49 (yes, I was speaking of 49, which if you add the two digits together, you get the 13th Floor Elevator), I will be turning 49 in 4 days. Yes, it's positively a frightening though that I'm one step closer to being eligible for my AARP card.

Blah. Blah. Blah.

And for a refreshing change of pace, for only the second in this century (that's 15 years for all you quiz kids out there who are mathematically challenged), my family will actually be around to celebrate my birthday. Why is this such a big deal? For as long as I can remember, my family has gone camping during my birthday, which coincidentally falls in the general area of Memorial Day weekend. And since I don't camp, I rarely have my family together for my b'day.

And on the rare occasion that I did visit the campground, I would inevitably get into some kind of trouble, like butting into an impolite discussion that a Neanderthal of a CT state trooper was having with my mother.

And speaking of my 49th b'day, coincidentally, my wedding anniversary is exactly two weeks away, and since this year is the big 25 I'll be throwing a big old anniversary party for all my family and friends. And...since this is America, what better way to have a party than to make it a BYOB!

So my friends, I don't always think politically correct, but when I do, I like to listen to one of my favorite songs by Genesis. Stay intelligent my friends.

  1. I don't blame you for skipping it - camping sucks. It's dirty, there are bugs, community bathrooms - if any! No thanks.
Happy birthday and anniversary early! The big fifty looms on the horizon for me.
Never played air guitar in a library, but I still do it in my car...

  2. Alex: I haven't gone camping since I was my daughters age (that's 3 1/2 decades), and what my family does couldn't be called camping, but RV'ing.

Thanks and I've done air guitar, air bass and air drums in my car as well. :D

  3. Good songs. Especially Follow you Follow me. I cried. You are a marshmallow fellow.

I put a Big Chill CD in the car player the other day and was oblivious to the other traffic around me. At 68 years of age I was rocking out and a few folks were staring. It happens to the best of us.

  4. G.A.: Thanks.

I often get strange looks from my daughter whenever I play certain music in my car.

  5. I almost always have a song going around in my head. And as far as getting distracted, Oh! something shiney! Did you see that? Oh yeah, what was I saying?

  6. Lisa: Yeah I try to keep distractions to a minimum...oh yeah, I saw it, it was a classic Mustang from the 60's...I forgot what I was saying too.

  7. I've never understood the appeal of camping. Bugs, no indoor plumbing, yuck.

I'd have to say...not realizing someone was walking right by me (my roommate) on the sidewalk. I was that distracted.

  8. M: I never understood it either. I guess that's what makes me so special in my family.

  9. 49 does sound like a big number. If it makes you feel any better, my mom is turning 70 - today! Holy guacamole.

Congratulations on your upcoming 25th wedding anniversary. It's a beautiful thing.

  10. S.R.: Congrats on your mom turning 70!

And thanks for the congrats. Yes, 25 years is definitely a thing of beauty.

  11. Just wait until next year, if you think this one is scary... Tunes are always a good distraction.

I must've mis-placed eye-glasses 10 times this week n lost 2 good reading glasses because I can't think getting rushed thru store lines without time to put change n the slip away with armload of bags, n also when I rush out the door trying not to be late, trying to put house glasses where I can find them. (2 gone)!

    Happy Big Day!

  12. Snaggle: I'm not looking forward to next year, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

I haven't lost my glasses yet. I've misplaced them from time to time and had a pair snap in two while I was cleaning them once (definitely made for an interestingly blurry ride home).

  13. Nothing like a good guitar riff to get you going! ☺ Have a very Happy Birthday and as for turning 49 - that's nothing! Wait'll you hit the big 6-0, which will be my next one (in 8 months). Hope you are having a wonderful time on this Memorial Day Weekend. A toast to you, G.B. Miller!

  14. Debbie: Thanks. :D

I always got good guitar riffs going through my head, but they sometimes pop up at the most strangest times.

I'm impressed when someone mentions 13th Floor Elevator in a post.

  17. Arlee: Thanks.

For some unknown reason, that band's name has always stuck in my head. I've heard the song numerous times on oldies stations but never really gave them a 2nd thought.

  18. Wow so many celebrations, Birthday, Wedding Anniversary and a blogging anniversary too! Congrats all round.

Music is a constant distraction to me. Wherever I am whatever I'm doing I have either music playing or it's just playing in my head.

  19. Joe: Thanks.

I'm a lot like that at work. When I have to certain lengthy tasks (i.e. longer than an hour) I will often turn on the radio as background noise.

When I'm doing other things (i.e. filing), I'll often be humming a song to myself or thinking about a song as well.
