Holy Cow! 6 Years!

I was rambling through my blog subscriptions the other day, when I read about another blogger celebrating their 3 year anniversary. While I was congratulating her, it suddenly dawned on me that I made a major league faux pas with my own blogging activities.

Basically, I clean forgot that on May 24, 2008, I published my very first post. And here we are, some 6 blogs and 1389 posts later, belatedly celebrating my 6th blogging anniversary.

Considering we're doing this on the fly, this post will be just a tad scatter shot, in that for the first time in a very long time, I'll be a disorganized mess.

For those who have read about my blogging beginnings ad nauseum in the previous years, you may be excused from reading the next few paragraphs. For those who haven't, here is the condensed version of my blogging life which will cover the time frame of 2008 thru 2014.

Name: G.B. Miller aka Georgie B aka G.

Current blog: This one, but over the years have created Cedar's Mountain, Shooting Suburbia, Books by G.B. Miller (aka Books by Georgie B), It's Always Saturday In Suburbia (don't remember what the previous name was) and Flashing Georgie's Shorts (now closed).

Topics covered: Both this one and Cedar's Mountain have been my basic go-to blogs for whatever was on my tiny little mind for the past 6 years, Shooting Suburbia covered my fascination with  basic photography, Saturday in Suburbia became my adult blog and Flashing Georgie's Short is now a deceased short story blog.

Blog posts: For those of you who made not know this, I've repeated exactly 4 posts in six years. In other words, I changed the date and reposted them. I've also nuked roughly 36 posts, mostly related to a short story that I had posted on the blog and then decided to publish as a chapbook. So essentially, I have written for my 6 blogs 1385 original posts, which is no easy task by any stretch of the imagination.

I originally started off by posting twice a day, every other day for roughly 6 months. As you can well imagine, that is a recipe for serious burnout, so in 2009, I changed to once a day every other day, which lasted for about three years or so. Since 2012, I've been posting roughly three days a week.

My spam posts. Yes, I've had more than my fair share of spammers jacking up my page view count. So much so that roughly one year ago, Memorial Day weekend to be exact, I got hammered with approx. 75 spam comments. That my friends, is why I don't allow anonymous comments and the main reason why I moderate my comments. That being said, here are the top 9 spammy/non-spammy posts of all time, including one for this blog, if you can believe it.

1} (B)ooks (A)lready (R)ead;
2} All Points Bulletin;
3} Piggy Squealed In Rhythm;
4} Brand Spanking New Post Up At Father Nature's Corner (not a spam post as due to the fact that I've spent the previous 5 years pimping Cedar's Mountain a small percentage of readers come from that old blog to my new one);
5} Diatribe About The Hazards Of Being A Pedestrian;
6} G.B.'s Disjointed Blog Tour of 2012, Take 4;
7} What I Don't Like Could Fill This Screen;
8} If You Tweak It, They Will Leave;
9} Fulfilling My New Year's Resolution for 2013;

There is a post in that list that has a special place in my blogging heart. All Points Bulletin contains what I personal believe to be one of my best pieces of micro flash fiction that I've ever written. In fact, I'm so proud of that piece that I had my soon-to-be ex-publisher post it on their blog for Valentine's Day 2013.

Thus, the condensed version of my 6 years of blogging. I now leave you with one of my absolute favorite short songs (no, not the Dead Kennedys' thirty second rampage called "I Like Short Songs"). A college disc jockey would use this song to end his show (alt country/folk) with, and I thought it would be a great way to end this blog post. Happy Hump Day!

  1. You certainly are a prolific writer and blogger! I did the AtoZ Challenge for only 26 days and was exhausted. Can't imagine keeping up the pace you have for so many years. Even three times a week is good! I have to learn to be faster in publishing posts. It's a perfectionist thing - going over and over everything. The formatting can be so time consuming as well. Congratulations on your 6th Blogaversary!

  2. I have had to have been here since the beginning. 6 years? That's it?

  3. Debbie: Thanks.

    It has been both a blessing and a curse throughout the years. Sometimes it takes a lot more work to keep people coming back than it is to have them stop to begin with.

    But overall, it's been a blast.

    Bearman: Pretty much yeah, I would thing so. I found your blog in 2009, I believe.

  4. Congratulations on six years! And so many blogs. That is really impressive. I can't imagine posting twice a day. No wonder you hit burnout. If you ever want to post photography here, that would be cool.

  5. Congrats, G:) You have been way more prolific than I have in roughly the same amount of time - no idea how you've managed it but keep going!

  6. 7 years here and counting. started in 2007, June 2007, to be more accurate and haven't looked back. Love blogging. Here's to another six years, sir! :-)

  7. Alex: Thanks.

    Most of those blogs reflected my interests at the time. Occasionally I resurrect one whenever I have something unusual to post. I may start posting pics/videos soon, once I figure out how to properly work my new video cam.

    Jane: Thanks.

    It wasn't easy, let me tell you. But I'm still chugging along. :D

    ACIL: 7 years is excellent. I'm just blogging day-by-day right now. Hopefully I'll make it through another year without any disillusionment to knock me out.

  8. Congrats on your anniversary! That is a lot of blogging. I almost forgot about mine, too, until about two days before and I thought, crap, what day was that again?!

  9. Sarah: Thanks for stopping by.

    Usually I have something well prepared, but the way this year has played out, I completely forgot about it. I promise to do better next time.

    M: Thanks.

  10. Congrats on your 6th blog birthday! (I know the common term is 'blogiversary' but I'm not sure how I feel about frankenwords lol) You've been quite busy over those years, too. 1385 posts? That's astounding! I've had maybe 300 or so. And I've taken month-long blogging breaks at least twice.

    I've been blogging for about 3-4 years, not sure when I started but The Pedestrian Writer my 4th blog. I was on Wordpress briefly and that was nice, but wasn't getting much love their and their interface is a pain in the ass. Had a couple false starts on Blogger but I've found my niche now.

    Hope you've got plenty more blogging material for the next 6 years (and beyond)

  11. Chris: Thanks.

    I did briefly consider going to WordPress about four years ago to do a private blog, but I wasn't too thrilled about the various set ups and what not.

    I've always been on Blogger, and while there's been peaks and valleys, for the most part it has been a fun ride.

    I know it's a boatload of posts and I can come up with even a tenth more of that this year, I'll be happy.
