An Old Blog, A New Blog, And Less Stress

As I've been alluding to for the past few weeks, I've been thinking very long and very hard about what I want to do in regards to my blogging and my writing, and I've recently come to a decision about. My New Year's resolution is this:

Write more, blog less, and be more active in social media.

1} Write more.

I really haven't done much in the way of writing since, oh I don't know, 2014. I spent three quarters of 2015 prepping this novella for release on Kindle, Smashwords and CreateSpace. The remaining one quarter was spent rediscovering my writing groove, specifically, working on a re-write for novel as well as developing another short story trilogy for the Kindle.

Because work has been the the constant thorn in my side, I decided starting this year to prioritize my writing output. Which leads us to resolution part the 2nd.

2} Blog less.

Due to one of my most annoying personality traits, I spent the majority of 2015 driving myself mad with my blogging.Things finally reached a boiling over point in late November, and as you saw in December, I really didn't do much with my blogging. At least, here on Blogger.

If you look to the side, stationed at the top, you'll find a link to my re-tooled Tumblr blog, simply titled "I Are Writer!"

Basically, I decided to get back to the main reason why I got into blogging in the first place. And strangely enough, I found that I can unleash the mind-numbing drool that is my writing (tongue is planted firmly in cheek) without worrying about whether or not people will be turned off. Seriously though, I rediscovered my passion for writing mind numbing info dumps, and with Tumblr, I can seriously indulge that passion until I get seasick.

Now I know you're wondering about the fate of this blog, especially since it sounds like I'm moving to Tumblr. Well, to a certain degree, I am. However, because Tumblr has probably the crappiest commenting system known to mankind, I'll be using Blogger as a commenting system.

So starting with this post, I'll be turning this blog into a weekly blog. I'll post a link to my Tumblr blog and if you so choose, can leave your comments here to that post. Additionally, I will try my very best to post a short weekly blog post that will hopefully match up with the Tumblr post. One other item: Tumblr works best with Chrome or Firefox.

I'll still be around to visit/comment on your blogs, because quite frankly, I still need my morning and evening reality check, and your blogs are the best way of getting it.

3} Social media.

This ties in with point #1. I really need to be more active on social media, and while blogging and Facebook is good for starters, I really need to start exploring other avenues.

My friends and readers, I thank you for your support for these past 8 1/2 years, and I sincerely hope that you'll still stop by to check me out from time to time, either here at Father Nature's Corner, I Are Writer! @ Tumblr or at Facebook.

  1. Well, those sound like good resolutions! And I know what you mean about Tumblr. Great platform for photos and ease of reposting, but absolute crap for comments and videos. Blogger has it all over Tumblr for that. Cheers to you!

    1. Thankee.

Yes, some of the photos I've seen are fantastic, and additionally, a lot of celebs have blogs on Tumblr.

  2. I don't have a Tumblr account, so glad you will continue here at least once a week. That seems to be my pace as well.
Otherwise, I'm active on Twitter, but that's about it.

    1. It definitely does at that, especially if you use IE. That is why I recommend using Chrome or Firefox to access Tumblr.

  4. I like that you consider other blogs as a reality check.

Sometimes I feel as if I have run out of steam with blogging - I think the problem is that I started the thing with having so many photos, when I started out with just posting "good things" with no photos at all. I may need to rethink that.

    1. I've always considered other blogs as my reality check. There billions of other people in the world, and it's quite fascinating to get a glimpse of what some of those people are like.

I feel your pain. I'm tempted to go back to posting photos, but my photos are so esoteric that trying to remember why I took a pic from several months or several years ago is indeed an exercise in aggravation.

  5. Some tough decisions were made. I think one day soon I may be forced to do the same thing. I'm falling behind in my writing because I'm trying to catch up in my blogging. If only there were more time in the day.

    1. Exceptionally tough. I originally started blogging to give myself a censor-free platform for my ramblings (spent three years in the chat rooms) as well as a way to practice my writing skills.

Now it's a matter of trying to find a happy medium between writing and blogging, especially since I want to concentrate on getting more product out there.

  6. I've hardly written or blogged in 2016. Just can't find the energy

  7. That's why neither of us could ever get into Tumblr. The crappy commenting system. So it's good to see you utilizing the best of both worlds, and cutting down, too. We did the same thing and it feels ah-may-zing.

    1. Thanks.

About the only good thing about Tumblr is the ability to submit questions and like certain posts. Beyond that, it's basically, "eh" when it comes to commenting.

I'm not ready to cut blogging completely out of my life, so this will be the best of bothe worlds.

  8. Driving yourself mad in any way, shape or form is a bad thing indeed. I will look forward to the weekly posts!

I think at this point, a weekly blog is the best I can come up with.

  9. I also enjoy reading blogs as a fun sneak peek into other peoples' lives around the world. Well, sometimes people aren't having fun, per se... but it gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling, because we're all in this life together, facing similar problems as best we can. As a weekly blogger myself, your plan seems quite reasonable to me.

    1. The warm and fuzzies....I like that concept. I get that from time to time as well whenever I read anyone else's blog.

It's weird dropping down to a weekly blog. It kind of means I've gone a complete a circle as I dare. I started off blogging twice a day, every other day. When that became too much, I dropped it to every other day. When that became to much, I dropped it to three times a week, then eventually to twice a week.

Even though I'm sort of sticking to twice a week, it's being split amongst two different blogs.
