I Too Can So Write!: 2/8/17

As per the custom of this blogger, we give you the latest from I Are Writer!, in which we explore how to milk an old story until it screams for mercy like an angry adult toddler. And as per the custom, you can comment here as opposed to there.

Today's random thought ties in with the Tumblr post, in that we are in hip deep inside a writing conundrum. By conundrum, I mean I'm stuck between wanting to write to keep myself occupied while waiting for some final thoughts from beta readers on my latest project {one of which decided to gracefully bow out due to a slight misunderstanding, but gave me good advice from what she was able to complete} and looking to start on a potential project connected with this novel/novella that will ultimately {I believe} force me to scrap some 32 pages/4 chapters of a rewrite to a previously published novella.

Fortunately for me, I have other things to help me postpone a decision for a few more....weeks.

sigh

In any event, I leave you with this fantastic cover of the song "In Bloom" by Sturgill Simpson. First heard this on a local collage radio program and it blew me away.

  1. Scrapping chapters is always hard.
Bummer to lose a critique partner but at least it was on good terms.

    1. I'm always loathe to scrap writing of any kind. But, if you get solid advice from those who been doing it longer with a far greater degree of success than you currently have, then you really have to pay attention to it.

It was a bummer, but I did manage to give her the opportunity to explore Smashwords (I use them in addition to KDP) in greater detail.

  2. Even if you do have to scrap 32 pages, if it's the right call in the long run it's more than worth it. 1 step backwards, 2 steps forwards... as opposed to the alternative.

    1. I think it will be. What I have written/alluded to in this particular story is a complete 360 to the direction I was heading in with the other rewrite. I do touch upon some background in the rewrite with this particular character, so I think it makes sense to explore it in greater detail.

  3. Is your "slight misunderstanding" the polite way of saying you had a big falling out? Ha. Anyway, it sounds frustrating.

    1. While I may use certain polite adjectives to describe major aggravations (and you know me so well), in this case, it is the truth. Being from the UK, she has a different understanding of American slang, which is what led to the misunderstanding. But, it's all good.

    1. I thought it was really cool and he gave the song a whole different meaning.

I'm find that a lot on college radio, in which different artists from other genres do fantastic covers of good rock songs.

These days, the written word is to die for, so please leave a comment that shows me and everyone else the real you. All kinds of verbiage will be cheerfully accepted in the spirit it was written.
