I Too Can So Write!: 3/8/17

As per the norm, we have a link to a fresh post @ I Are Writer!, which continues our look into rewriting/reinventing old characters from old stories as well as reinventing plotlines. Please check it out.

So.

Wasn't sure if I was going to add anything else to today's post, since I'm in one of those conundrums with my blog again, but I decided that decision could wait another week. For your entertainment (dis)pleasure, two videos featuring the two of the worst singers of all time. This little snippet was inspired by this book. Enjoy!

  1. Have you seen the movie about Florence Foster Jenkins with Meryl Streep? I haven't, but My Rare One and I intend to rent it sometime soon.

    1. I have not. Didn't even know the movie existed until I started reading the jacket blurb. This book is a riot, and with the video, I lasted about 49 seconds before crying uncle 'cause I was laughing so hard I was crying.

  2. I can understand a really bad America's Got Talent audition, but how that old one slipped into the world is beyond me.

    1. Money. She was incredibly wealthy, so had the means to pursue her passion.

  3. I am eager to see the movie and loved this video of the real Florence. LOL Also will always love William Hung because my grandson did a perfect impression of that audition video and kept us laughing for years. Both gained the fame they sought.

    1. Yes they did. I'm not sure about seeing the movie 'cause I really don't like Meryl Streep anymore. I'm pretty sure that William Hung was the highlight of the entire American Idol run.

    2. What happened with you and Meryl that you used to like her and now you don't? Something to do with using the Academy Awards to express her political views, perhaps? I would agree. It's not right to subvert an event that for one purpose to your private use.

    3. I don't mind if someone wants to use an event to express their political viewpoint (i.e kneeling at that national anthem) but be consistent with your viewpoint. Don't condemn someone for doing something you don't approve of when you don't do what you're condemning to begin with.

Among the finer points she railed against was the President mocking a disabled reporter. Problem is, while it may garnered applause, Hollywood certainly has no problem in using able-bodied people to portray disabled people in t.v. shows and movies.

In my opinion, her rant would've carried more substance if Hollywood actually walked the walk instead of talked the talk.

    4. Hollywood stars take their fortunes from liberals as well as conservatives and while they are entitled to their own opinions, I do not believe they should use their award platforms to espouse those beliefs. I was very disappointed in Meryl but was still happy that my goddaughter got to shake hands with her at the Oscars. LOL

    5. Good point. A vast majority of these individuals forget (conveniently or otherwise) that all political persuasions feed their coffers. There is such an ingrained belief of entitlement that they have no problem biting the hand that feeds them.

And congrats to your goddaughter for being able to have contact with a Hollywood star.

    1. As Huey Lewis once sang, "Sometimes, bad is bad."

I have yet to listen to William Hung and I lasted but 49 seconds of Ms. Jenkins.

  5. If you're so bad that, instead of people paying you to hear you, you have to pay them to hear you, it's not a good sign. I went to Youtube to hear her sing, and and one of the comments was by someone who wrote that he had rather go to a concert by her than one by Justin Bieber, and I thought, that, well, I would include a lot of people in the list that I would prefer her over. All rap performers, for instance, as well as anyone who blatantly uses sex to sell music.

As for Hung, I didn't get past the talking.

    1. It's funny, but according to the book, she didn't make a dime off these "concerts". Being the wealthy socialite that she was, all the money that was raised went to charity. She was popular because she was so excruciatingly bad, and her ego wouldn't even let entertain the thought that she was bad.

    Like our president...

    1. Cute.

However, in re: to our commander-in-chief, I will reserve judgement until at least the summer. I did the same thing with Obama, so Trump deserves the exact same consideration. Besides, the crap I'm going through on the state level politically is affecting me more than the crap on the national level.

  7. Trust me when I say that my brother sings far worse than either of these two guys. It was like torture when I used to sit next to him in church.

    1. Somehow, singing in church really does bring out the worst singers. No talent, but lots of enthusiasm.
